Collecting data in the context of a reimbursement dossier: costs related to the current clinical practice for the treatment of melanoma

hict received the task from the client, in the context of a reimbursement dossier, to perform a study wherein the following costs are determined:

  • Costs related to the current clinical practice for the treatment of melanoma in Belgium;
  • Costs related to the treatment with a product from the company for the treatment of melanoma in Belgium;
  • Costs related to the side effects of the medicines used in the current clinical practice in Belgium.

Approach

To execute this assignment a questionnaire was made by hict which allowed to systematically map out all costs (cf. supra) by way of interviewing two Belgian oncologists. Every piece of information that was gathered (consumption of resources, e.g. tests, medicines, consults) was processed by hict, unit prices were looked up and costs were therefor determined and finally presented in a structural manner in a report.

Result

A transparent report structurally presented how the costs were determined (including the applied methodology). The format of the report was conform the demands of the client concerning the integration of data in their cost-effectiveness analysis and budget impact analysis.
