An independent, quantitative & qualitative evaluation of Nexxis compared to existing AV systems for the digital Operating Room (OR).

22 août 2019

The objective of the project was to create an independent, quantitative & qualitative evaluation of Nexxis compared to existing AV systems for the digital OR (Operating Room).

Expertise: Market Research, Cost Analysis

Project Highlights

  • Customer: Barco
  • Main Goal: An independent, quantitative & qualitative evaluation of Nexxis compared to existing AV systems for the digital Operating Room (OR)
  • Main Results: A whitepaper describing this independent evaluation, to support OR integrators, OR managers or hospital management in future investment decisions in the context of digital OR systems

Approach

In a preliminary phase Hict developed an economic model providing the means for a structured evaluation comparing AV vs IP solutions. In addition, other direct benefits of DiOR for hospitals, such as improved communication between ORs and more flexible OR workflows where included in a qualitative analysis.

In a second phase Hict was responsible for the development of a whitepaper, targeted at OR integrators, OR managers or hospital management. It describes the tools that are offered to support strategic (qualitative evaluation) and investment decision making (quantitative evaluation) in the context of a simple and flexible image and audio management solution, as part of a digital OR.

This project consisted of 4 phases:

  1. Activity analyses were performed in 3 different types of surgeries in 1 Belgian (Flemish) general hospital.
  2. Interviews were conducted in 3 types of Belgian Flemish hospitals
  3. Integrator discussion with a system integrator for audio-visual customized total solutions in the Netherlands
  4. Round table discussions

The round table discussions were based on carefully prepared specific questions using the information collected during the previous phases. As a result of this preparation, during the round table discussions there was a genuine exchange of information, analyses and reflection, leading to mutual understanding &identification of common concerns, and the formulation of conclusions that were used as input for the qualitative evaluation (strategic value model) . Three round tables discussions were moderated by Hict, the round table stakeholders are all people of different Flemish hospitals. The inputs out of these 4 phases were processed and captured in a white paper.

Results

  • An economic model that covers an economic evaluation between traditional AV versus IP visualization, but also covers different direct benefits of DiOR for hospitals
  • A white paper, targeted at OR integrators, OR managers or hospital management
  • Round table discussions resulting in mutual understanding & identification of common concerns, and formulation of conclusions that were used as key input for the qualitative evaluation (strategic value model)
