For patients with (ultra)rare diseases, accessing accurate diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care can be a challenge.
Expertise Pillar: Healthcare Policy.
In some cases, patients may need to travel abroad for treatments unavailable in Belgium. While initiatives like European Reference Networks support supranational access for (ultra)rare diseases, healthcare remains a national responsibility, often necessitating special reimbursement systems for patients seeking treatment outside their home country. The availability of such systems across Europe is currently unclear.
In this project, you will investigate the existence of national initiatives in European countries that support and facilitate access to innovative treatments abroad. Based on your findings, you'll contribute to shaping solutions for the Belgian context.
We will be giving an online info session on the different internship topics in the week of 24 April 2023.
